I see your point about fear - we are fearful of things that are unfamiliar to us...why would there be something to fear from the unknown, though?

Fear can, actually, be irrational, though. Why should I be afraid of a gay person? Why should someone else's love life frighten me? I have never really been able to follow that line of reasoning.

Excellent! I'm so glad that you are able to get positive things from the class.

But please give some thought to the concept of feminists whining and complaining and wanting to feel sorry for themselves. I don't whine, I do complain, and LOUDLY, when I see a wrong being done to someone else, or myself, and if I do feel sorry for myself, it has less to do with the Big Picture than the Small One (i.e., "Boy, I'm down because I don't have the money for a big Christmas for the kids" or "Wow, the anniversary of my father in law's death is really hard, it being right at christmas and all" type stuff, as opposed to saying, "Wow, I am pitiful and oppressed.") There is nothing wrong with complaining about things that are wrong - if we didn't complain about those things, we would be thoughtless, heartless, selfish and self-absorbed people.

I have wondered long and long about this same argument. If someone is "prolife" then shouldn't they support all the programs that will *help* those women who make the decision to terminate their pregnancy? Shouldn't they be against capital punishment? And the war? And poverty? And...yeah. The reality is that they aren't, and not enough people realize why this is: the prolife argument is not really about saving the lives of children, but instead, about controlling the lives of women.

Disgusting.

Great post, btw!
